A couple weeks ago, I tried unsuccessfully to use a pretty wildly variegated yarn with a cowl pattern that used lace and texture stitches, which did not work. Both parts of the project were great individually, but not great together – this left me with a pattern and some yarn that I needed to do something with. I started with the pattern.
(Bat Cowl link below goes to Ravelry – do not follow if the site gives you problems!)
The Bat Cowl needed either a solid or a tonal yarn to show off the pattern. I bought some Delight DK from Pandia’s Jewels in the Poe and His Raven colorway, which worked out beautifully! It’s a purple/dark gray/black tonal that is just what I wanted for this project π

I’m thinking about possibly knitting a lighter color backing to show off the figure a little better.

If you are in the mood for a quick and easy Halloween-y pattern, this is a great option. Also, if you like bats in general and not just for their Halloween connection, you could also do this cowl in browns or more natural bat colors. I got this done in 2 evenings of knitting with a little time to spare.
Thatβs a great cowl! Your yarn choice was perfect:)

Oh I might have to make that! Do you think it would count as a halloween costume at school???π€£

Maybe! It is a really quick and easy knit – and it would accessorize a witch or vampire costume pretty handily π

Um, no, give me bunnies and puppy dogs, bats are not my friends. LOL

Bats are a vital part of the ecosystem, pollinating plants and consuming vast quantities of bugs. Plus – Halloween fun! Though I love bunnies and puppies too π

I love it and added it to my list of things to knit. I hope I can get it done by Halloween.

That bat cowl is so cool! We have been watching the bats fly over our yard each evening at dusk. I love watching them.

They are so interesting to watch! We had a bat house in our yard in our house in PA. We were in a rural area, so it was fine. We can’t really here, and I miss it a lot.
