Slightly over a year ago, I changed from my old job to a new one at the same company. You can read about it here, if you are interested. Well, as it turned out, that was not the end of me doing that job. The lady who took it over quit with very scant notice, and now I am doing that plus my current actual job. Which I why I have been a little quiet here recently.
There is some talk of finding a replacement for her, but for the moment, it is all on me. I am a little frazzled.
Anyway. Knitting! I have gotten some done on Forest Weave over the last few days. Slow but sure!

I like the look and feel of the fabric – which is very open, and I like knitting with linen. However, I have been running into a problem with the cakes.

This linen yarn just sproings off the cakes in every direction and immediately tangles into a big snarl. About halfway through a cake I usually just stop and wind it in a ball in hopes of preserving my sanity a little bit. Which means that probably it shouldn’t be wound that way in the first place. I think I’m just going to take a cake or two along with me and wind them into balls in idle moments so they are ready to go. Because the cakes are just killing me.
Do you have any yarn types you find particularly difficult? How do you deal with them, if so?
Sorry about work. I hope they find someone else because doing two jobs is no fun.
I have never used linen but I do know it has its challenges. I once used a wool yarn that I had bought a huge amount of and every time I tried to pull it from the cake it just broke. I tried working it from the ball and it did the same. I contacted the yarn company and they (horrors) sent me another bag and it did the same thing. I think it was spun wrong. It had zero strength.

True – no fun!
That is terrible! It does sound like that was spun wrong. Did you find something to use it for? Or was it a loss?

It’s still sitting in my stash…

I know how that goes. It is hard to let go of yarn, even when you know it is problematic.

I had some pine paper yarn that did that. I gave up.

Pine paper yarn sounds interesting! But I can believe it would be pretty stiff.

What the heck is pine paper yarn? It sounds cool, but also maybe something only fairies know about?

It’s from Habu Textiles. It’s very papery and white. I don’t know if they make it anymore. It is true that my east-west horoscope is Taurus-Goat which is a “taciturn pixie.” 🧚♀️

I never heard of an east-west horoscope before! Just looked it up – that’s really interesting 🙂

Sorry to hear you are pulling the load for two! Hope they find a replacement soon. I have never worked with linen, but find my alpaca cakes get snarled and limp over time.

Oh my gosh – me too! How do you handle the alpaca snarling?

Wow! You are doing your job AND someone else’s job? That must be crazy. You need your knitting as therapy when you come home.

It is crazy. What is making me crazy is that I can’t do either job to the level I would like to do them. Knitting definitely helps!

Sorry you are doubled up on work. Not fair or fun.
I had a really hard time with Alpaca last night. It was so fuzzy it just kept knotting on itself. Took me all night . UGH I finally rolled it onto a long cardboard tubes Hopefully it won’t tangle any more

I hope the cardboard tube solution works! That is a good idea 🙂 No, it is not fun at all.

I have had the floopy cake issue with silk before. Luckily it was just a one skein project, so I could ball it up easily. Is winding yarn from a cake to a ball relaxing right now? I can imagine the stress of two jobs would make it hard for me to do much.

I can imagine silk would be a little floopy. It is really satisfying and pretty relaxing, especially compared to work right now. I am wondering if there are any jobs out there for yarn ball winders 🙂
