Randomness Roundup

I have a lot of random news to share, so here goes!

The seedlings are still alive and thriving, we managed to find a second Jiffy seed starting tray so we could start the rest of our flowers. It was tough to find – we went to several stores before we were able to find what we needed.

The sourdough starter… is dead. I do not know what I did, but I killed it. I opened the lid on Friday morning to discard and feed, and it smelled like a used sweat sock filled with gorgonzola cheese. That had been left out in the sun. So that went out. The only thing I can think it might be was I had started doing two feedings a day, but it was not developing to the point that it should have been, so I went back to one feeding a day. Sourdough experts, any ideas what that might have been? I do intend to try again, but not until I have a more reliable supply of flour. It’s kind of hit and miss right now, so another run at sourdough is going to have to wait.

I got a fun yarn shipment recently from Pandia’s Jewels – a really nice Halloween tote bag, some random miniskeins, and an Illumiknitty pin 🙂

The virtual VK Live event I wrote about on Friday? It abruptly opened for registration on Saturday morning and proceeded to mostly sell out. I did manage to get in on a couple of classes for the Saturday and Sunday it is running. Which is OK, because this morning I got some even better VK Live news. Their Seattle event is rescheduled! They are holding it next April, and anyone who was registered is automatically registered for next year’s event. That is exactly what i was hoping would happen – so I’m very happy about that 🙂

Finally, I am at a decision point with my Arachne. The main modification I was thinking about was adding some web patterning to the wrists or forearms, then I thought about doing it over the whole arms. Then Karen had the idea of doing it just on one arm! So I found some free printable figure template (croquis, if you are talking fancy fashion words) at www.designersnexus.com and colored in the three current notions.

The first option is with webbing added to just the forearms – I think it has a kind of super-villainess flair, but not sure this is my favorite.

Here it is with webbing running down both arms, and

the one arm option, which is quirky and cool!

Opinions? Do share!

  1. I love Pandia’s Jewels stuff. Always super cute stitch markers and things. For me it is definitely one or three. I think three looks rather elegant somehow but perhaps a bit more ‘bold’ as a fashion statement whereas one is very nicely understated. Good luck deciding!

  2. Lovely yarn!
Having done 9 rounds of the yoke of Arachne I personally can’t wait to get beyond the colorwork. That being said I think doing just the wrists is elegant and one arm is quirky. Both arms looks busy to me and my brain is screaming about trying to put it on with all the floats. But any of the options that make you happy is best:)

    1. The colorwork is pretty busy for the first bit, but after a couple increases it kind of spreads out. You are right – both arms does look too busy! That is a good point about the floats – something to think about 🙂

  3. Hmmmm, I think either the one arm or the forearms. Both arms was a tad too much and looked more like a spiderman wanna be lol. So glad to hear your VK registration is automatic. That makes it so easy for you. All you need to do now is decide which classes. That is always such a hard choice.

    1. Thank you -it’s a tough choice! I’m glad for opinions 🙂
Yes, relieved they were able to reschedule it! I may be able to get my same classes that I registered for, though there will very likely be changes. But yes, always tough to choose 🙂

  4. I love it down one arm, but I would probably wear it more if it was just around the wrists. I like that it has a super villian flair. For your sourdough starter – I have no idea. Did you change flours? Did the place where you keep it change (location? Heat on more or less?). OMG Illuminknitty!

    1. I’m wondering if that isn’t true for me too. There’s a little time to think about it, but I need to decide soon!
I didn’t change the flours, but I did change where I kept it. The counter where it was normally was kind of cool, so I started putting it on the dryer when it was running to warm up. May be that was it? Next try I’ll just leave it somewhere consistent.
Illumiknitty made me smile too 🙂
