Snowstorms and Big Plans

Like much of the US, we got whacked with a lot of snow Friday and over the weekend. So much of our time has been spent shoveling out and staying warm.

The upper right picture is our back yarn, the other three are the front of the house at various points in our snowmageddon.

I spend a lot of time keeping the birds fed, and we have a lot of visitors to the back yard. The only ones I recognized were a cardinal and a blue jay. The rest are tiny dark colored birds (I’m no expert, and the feeders are kind of far from the house). This is a fairly typical crowd.

I have also been making my plans for this year. In terms of knitting, I am going to try to knit at least 6 sweaters and 6 pair of socks. Will that happen? Maybe? But I really need to work down my stash, at least a bit, and that is the best way to make it happen.

I also am going to branch out a little in crafting. I have signed up for the Homage to the Granny Square online class from the Mercerie, so will be doing a bit of crochet as well.

Other than that, this will be the year I learn to bake something other than 1 kind of pie. I’m a pretty good cook, but not great with baking. So this is the year that changes! I’m going to bake 1 cake and 1 pie each month. I have already successfully made sticky toffee pudding and a walnut cake for my Mom’s birthday, so this adventure is off to a reasonable start! Next up will be a key lime pie. After that, we’ll see.

And finally, I’m taking part in a read along! Agathachristie.com holds a read along each year featuring 12 of her books. This year’s theme is exploring her work through the decades, from the 1920s through to the 1970s. My grandmother had mystery novels all over her house, including quite a lot of Agatha Christie books, so I read a lot of them over the years. I’m interested to see how well they hold up for me all these years later. The first book for the year is The Mysterious Affair at Styles. I’m about 2/3 of the way through and enjoying it a lot πŸ™‚

  1. That sounds like such a fun plan ! I am not too much of a crocheter either, and this year doing something similar, by joining the MooglyCAL. Such a nice adventure. Hope you will really enjoy it.
