Like much of the US, we got whacked with a lot of snow Friday and over the weekend. So much of our time has been spent shoveling out and staying warm.β

The upper right picture is our back yarn, the other three are the front of the house at various points in our snowmageddon.β
I spend a lot of time keeping the birds fed, and we have a lot of visitors to the back yard.βThe only ones I recognized were a cardinal and a blue jay.βThe rest are tiny dark colored birds (I’m no expert, and the feeders are kind of far from the house).βThis is a fairly typical crowd.β

I have also been making my plans for this year.βIn terms of knitting, I am going to try to knit at least 6 sweaters and 6 pair of socks.βWill that happen? Maybe? But I really need to work down my stash, at least a bit, and that is the best way to make it happen.β
I also am going to branch out a little in crafting. I have signed up for the Homage to the Granny Square online class from the Mercerie, so will be doing a bit of crochet as well.β
Other than that, this will be the year I learn to bake something other than 1 kind of pie.βI’m a pretty good cook, but not great with baking.βSo this is the year that changes! I’m going to bake 1 cake and 1 pie each month. I have already successfully made sticky toffee pudding and a walnut cake for my Mom’s birthday, so this adventure is off to a reasonable start! Next up will be a key lime pie.βAfter that, we’ll see.β

And finally, I’m taking part in a read along! Agathachristie.com holds a read along each year featuring 12 of her books.βThis year’s theme is exploring her work through the decades, from the 1920s through to the 1970s. My grandmother had mystery novels all over her house, including quite a lot of Agatha Christie books, so I read a lot of them over the years.βI’m interested to see how well they hold up for me all these years later.βThe first book for the year is The Mysterious Affair at Styles.βI’m about 2/3 of the way through and enjoying it a lot π
Itβs hard to tell for certain, but I think you have some Juncos there. I love them. They remind me of Feathers McGraw.

That sounds like such a fun plan ! I am not too much of a crocheter either, and this year doing something similar, by joining the MooglyCAL. Such a nice adventure. Hope you will really enjoy it.

You have a very ambitious year planned. Your yard looks beautiful. Those birds are probably juncos. They come around every winter in this area.

I do! We’ll see if it works out as planned π
Another friend says juncos as well. I’m just going to assume you are both right π

People also call them snowbirds because they show up with the snow and hang around all winter.

I’m home with a snow day. Only expecting 5″ though, but enough to ground buses.
