Adventures in Dairyland II

This weekend we took a short trip about an hour away to Manitowoc. This is one of the nearby towns we are thinking about as a potential place to move, so we were there to see the sights, but also just to sort of scope out the town.

We went to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, which as you would imagine is all about boating on the Great Lakes. It was very interesting and well done! We had a great time and learned a lot, and also got to tour a WWII sub. If you are interested in that sort of thing, it is well worth a visit 🙂

Since we are in Wisconsin, we found some yummy cheese curds

And also we went to one of the beaches in town, and also visited a Veteran’s Memorial park nearby.

All in all, it’s a nice little town! Do you have any places near where you live that you like to go visit? Do tell!

  1. Oh my goodness! I’ve been to Manitowoc and toured the sub. Not a good place for someone claustrophobic! It is a quaint little town and we enjoyed our time there.

  2. I buy cheese curds when I visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory at the coast (Tillamook, Oregon), but I’ve never had them fried! The charm is that they squeak in your teeth. Squeaky cheese!

My favorite nearby thing for visitors is seeing the waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Or hiking one, for the heartier peeps.

  3. Looks like fun! I haven’t toured this particular sub, but I have toured some before and they’re both neat and definitely claustrophobia-inducing.

I live in the SF Bay Area, so there are plenty of fun little (and not so little) places near me to explore! One of my favorites, though, is to take a bit of a longer trip and go to Monterey. I’m a member of the Aquarium there, and so we like making an overnight trip of it with a visit to the Aquarium combined with Cannery Row or just staring at the ocean.
