I have been having a problem lately with where to put patterns and how to manage them, mainly due to where I normally knit. But I think I finally came up with a solution:

Music stand! It’s totally adjustable for height and angle, I can put a magnet on it to mark my place. It folds down to a very small item for easy storage, just in case it is every out of use. I’ve been trying it out for the last couple days, and feel like I have resolved my pattern viewing problem π
Do you have any tools or gear that was intended for other use that you have adapted into your crafting use?
That is great! I would not have luck with mine, though. My 90lb Goldie likes to sit at my feet and when he moves, he takes most things with him! I use my lap, unfortunately!! π πΆ

It does sound like your pup might rule out using something like this π But that is pretty great knitting company to have anyway!

That is a fantastic idea! I never would have thought to use a music stand. Iβve been using the coffee table. Itβs fine for an easy to remember pattern but a challenge when doing one that requires a lot of looking at the pattern.

That’s what I’ve been doing too – an end table near me. No good when there’s something I don’t have to pay too much attention to. π

What a clever hack. Would never have though of that. I have magnetic chart holders with long magnets that mark my row. They work well until they fall off the arm of my chair and the magnet goes flying lol.

That sounds like it might be helpful too!

That’s very cool! I use my iPad for patterns and it’s usually sitting on the arm of the couch next to me, at least until a dog knocks it off.

I acutally made 4 files in my file cabinet for knitting: Patterns for socks, patterns for kidws, patterns for shawls , and Patterns for hats and mitts. Oh and a warm hat made for camping with two little lights on it I use for night knitting when the porch is too dark or Fireman likes the lights off during tv time. π

That’s clever! Good way to store your patterns, and also the hat sounds like a great idea for being able to see your knitting π

Oh great idea! I need to get a music stand in general since I take voice lessons and sounds like it would be a good multipurpose tool. Generally I use the iPad with Knit Companion for more complex patterns that I need to be marking my place.

They have multiple uses for sure! It sounds like you have a good system in place for patterns π

What a great idea!! I think I still have my old music stand somewhere hiding in the basement. I’ll have to dig it out!

I’m pretty happy with this one π

Thatβs a great idea. I print my patterns as I have to scribble all over them, they then balance on my knee and fall off at 15 min intervals π€¦π»ββοΈ

That’s normally what I do as well. This is working a lot better so far!
