Right around this time last year, I boldly declared that 2017 would be my Year of Colorwork. I did 2 small colorwork projects, and then promptly stalled on my first big project for the year, which remains unfinished to this day. 2017 quickly devolved into my Year of Continuous Distraction, with my knitting projects taking me hither and yon, though cables and lace and then very occasionally touching back on colorwork, only to flit back away to something else.
So I’m not making any declarations this year.
What I will do is make some goals for myself. Specifically, this year I will make:
- At least 1 of my 2 big colorwork sweater kits (if I had to bet, I would bet that the one I make will be my Glenesk cardigan)
- At least 1 other cardigan. Specifics to be named later
- 6 pairs of socks
- 6 other small items (shawl, hat, scarf, whatever)
Stretch goal: 1 gansey or 2 tank tops or shells
2nd stretch goal: Finish design and write up of 2 design projects I have partially done, and then publish them.
3rd stretch goal: I’d kind of like to learn brioche and maybe one or two other techniques
I’m also not going to kid myself that I’m not going to buy any yarn. Clearly I’m going to buy yarn. I’m just going to try to take it easy, and also try to knit from stash as much as possible. That should be easy – I just did some reorganizing, and was reminded how much pretty, pretty yarn I have.
So that’s my vague, general plan for the year. How about you? What are your crafty (or other, if you are not a crafter) goals for 2018?
Sound like great goals!! I’m afraid to make knitting goals, lol

I’m hoping publicly announcing them will keep me sticking to them! But we will see 😉

Yup I do a lot of things because I don’t want to have to admit on my blog that I didn’t do them!😂

good goals! I’m doing monthly not annual ones. Brioche and colourwork are on my “wish – list” to try so they may sneak into a goal one month! 😊 good luck!

You are ambitious! My goals are to post 3 times a week (down from last year), garden, admire my pond and try to civilize my cats (that one never works!). My stretch goal will be to remain healthy through proper eating and exercise (never mind that’s not a stretch goal if you already do it). Clearly I’ve retired from goals too!

I just found your blog and have a lot of reading to do! My biggest goal is to knit my first sweater, which is going to be the Yakushima (sp?) cardigan. I have the yarn, but need to knit a gauge swatch and am putting that off.
Mind if I steal the theme of “knitting goals” for my blog?

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy it! I look forward to reading about your cardigan 🙂 Steal away – I love to read about other people’s goals. We can encourage each other!

I’ve returned to knitting after a 40 year absence. My first project was a family of snowmen. Now it’s time to attempt something ‘grown up’ and my partner has asked for socks. Nothing like easing me in gently!

Challenges stress me out, but I’ve decided to grant me the right to create everyday, whatever the craft. Just make something everyday that wasn’t there the day before.
