Agriculture Report

Finally checking back in with a partial agriculture report! Most of the veggies are flourishing – we’ve had a good mix of sun and rain, and also a mix of hot days and cooler nights, which tomatoes apparently LOVE.

The plant in the front of the picture is my cucumber, which is producing like there’s no tomorrow. The big bushy plant at the back of the box is a sprouted potato I found under a shelf in the kitchen and planted just to see what would happen.

The box toward the back is empire of the tomato – it is completely filled with thick, dense, tomato vegetation. Closer up pictures below.

The cages we got for the tomatoes and frame we got for the cucumber are all kind of big, and initially I though we had way overbought. As it turns out, no. Maybe a little bigger would have been good. But I can’t complain. We are getting lots of really good veggies this year. This is today’s haul.

Those cucumbers are as big as my forearm! I found I have to pick the big tomatoes a little green and then let them ripen on the counter. If they are ripe and I leave them overnight, the deer will eat them. I am leaving some of the produce out for them, though not a lot. We are really enjoying all the fresh veggies this year – hopefully I can improve on this next summer 🙂
