Every summer I come down with a condition I like to think of as Summer Reading Brain. Summer Reading Brain does not want to think serious thoughts or learn things. It wants to read the equivalent of Anne Rice novels or very lightly plotted mystery novels. This year, SRB struck mid June, as you can see here on my Storygraph chart from last month.

I barely finished anything last month because I was struggling with 2 books that SRB was not interested in. Way too serious and wordy. Those books have been paused, and I have given in. The Kindle now has several fluffy mysteries and similar loaded and ready to go. So hopefully I will have more reading progress to report for July!
Do you have any seasonal reading urges? Need to read Christmas novels starting in November or horror in October? Do tell!
I have that condition most of the year! I am currently reading a book written by a fellow blogger. It’s her story about rescuing cats (big surprise!). I’ve just started but so far I’m impressed with the writing. I bought it because she uses the profits to support her cat rescues but it’s worth the read. It’s called Catwoods.

That sounds like a great read! And a good cause as well 🙂 I will have to look for it!

Two recent favorites: Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall, and Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy. Engrossing.
Also on a tour through historical romantasy by Susanna Kearsley, and enjoying them all sequentially.

Time for beach reads! (Even if you don’t go to the beach.)
For me, the seasonal urge is to read cozy mysteries in the fall. The books don’t have to have a fall setting (and I don’t always read as many of them as I think I will) but for some reason fall reading just screams cozy mystery to me.

Definitely! Fall is time for settling in, getting cozy with a warm beverage and a good mystery!
