Warning – this post will be picture heavy!
This past weekend Mr QuiteaYarn and I got started on this year’s yard and garden projects. We started with some easy stuff – adding a little sun dial to a stump we have in the back yard with no other purpose as yet, and putting some flower pots on the back patio. Once the sun dial arrived, it turned out to be comically small for the stump, so we are not 100% sure it’s staying there. But it’s there for now!

Then I put together some hanging baskets and a planter and DH installed some hangers on the front porch. We also built two new garden boxes to hopefully grow even more veggies than last year!

And finally the toughest thing so far was planting some grape vines. I dug them in on the sunniest side of our house, so hopefully that will help them. However, the ground I planted them in has been very thick lawn since this house was built in the 60’s, so it was tough going to get through the sod and get them planted. However, it turned out exactly as I wanted, so fair enough. I know the supports look like they are just casually leaned against the house, but they are actually dug in pretty well.

This week we will get more dirt delivered for the raised beds, and veggies and more flowers should get here from Burpee next week. We are talking about getting a cherry and an apple tree for the back yard, but that may well be a next year thing – we will see.
Are you doing any gardening or yardening this year? Do tell!
How exciting! I love a sun dial.

It is very cool! I’ve wanted one for a while, and it has a cool design π

Very ambitious but a good start! I suggest getting the trees in sooner rather than later as they take a while to bear fruit. Looking forward to harvest updates!

Thank you for encouraging me π We are pretty excited to be going with it! We had some nice rain today, which feels like a good start for our new plants.

This all looks great! I’m still hoping to get my sprinklers replaced with a drip system before I do any real gardening, but we’ll see whether I actually get that done anytime soon. (Job hunting will naturally impact any house items that require money instead of just time…)

A drip system would be awesome! I hope your job hunt is going well?

Meh, not great so far but I’ve been focusing on getting a certification first so I haven’t been looking too hard yet.
