We finally finished another little home improvement project – our staircase. When we first moved in, it looked like this:

1970s shag carpet, which was also all over the downstairs floor. We got rid of it downstairs almost immediately, but for some reason we didn’t get it off the stairs until now. Very fortunately, the wood treads and risers are in great shape and cleaned up pretty nicely.

We stained the treads and added carpet strips, then put self-stick wallpaper strips on the risers. We are thinking about options for the risers, including possibly some fancy tilework, or just painting them white. But we didn’t want just bare wood while we figured that out. So here they are now:

Not perfect yet, but much better!
Are you working on your house? What is the project you are most looking forward to getting done, or that you are gladdest to have gotten finished?
Much better than the shag!

Our house has the same beige carpet on the stairs that it has had since we moved in over 30 years ago. It really is time to replace it. But I don’t know what I want instead. It definitely needs to have carpet, because we need the padding! Beyond that… Who knows?

We could possibly have lived with beige carpet, but it really was time to move on from the shag!

Wow! Very nice job! Perhaps you should keep the carpet and put it on the wall as creative decor or something. – HA – totally kidding! I can imagine how pleased you are everything you walk by (or walk on) your staircase remodel – Happy Dance!
