On Thursday, DH and I took off work and went to the Wisconsin State Fair! It was much bigger than the AK State Fair, and had a lot going on. We did not ride any of the rides, but walked around the whole fair, ate delicious but terrible food, and generally had fun.

The fair makes a big deal out of the cream puffs available from The Original Cream Puffs, so I needed to try them. I also got to meet their mascot. I’ve had cream puffs before I was not that enthused by them, so was not sure how this was going to go. However, they really were delicious! I did not get a picture of them, because we were too busy eating them.

One thing I did miss out on – I could not find the crafts anywhere. I was looking for the knitting and quilting and so on that had been entered and did not find it. But I did find a stand run by an alpaca farm that had alpacas in the tent. And yarn! So it wasn’t a total loss on the crafting front.

We had a good time and will likely go back next year. Next time though, I need to do a little more research in advance.
Do you go to your local or state fairs? If so, what is your favorite part?
Did you try cheese?

Huh, that’s weird that it was hard to find the crafts booth. I haven’t been to a county or state fair recently, but from what I remember of past visits it was never hard to find the crafts. (And we usually spent a lot of time there because it was air conditioned.)

I was surprised as well! They were easy to find at the AK state fair. Oh well, I just need to do more research before I go next year!

At least it was a fun fair! It can be hard to tell if the big ones are going to be fun or just overwhelming.

Yes! We try to time it so we are not there at the busiest times, because too many people is very overwhelming!

Fun! Yes, I go to and enter the local county fair. Crafts are well represented. In attending the OK state fair I learned that crafts and fine arts were no longer a part of the action. Carnival rides and animal husbandry predominate. It made me sad.

That is sad! Crafts and fine arts should definitely be part of the state fair experience!
