Agriculture Report

It’s the end of May, the weather is generally warming up, and I have an agriculture report to share! But first, we have had a frequent visitor to our back yard:

This very handsome bunny has been hanging out in our yard pretty regularly. He (or she, possibly) lets us get kind of close before he runs off, though I have not been pushing to get close. I was kind of worried about how he kind of hangs out by the garden boxes, but so far so good. I have asked him to stick to the lawn plants, and so far he is respecting that.

So what’s growing in the garden boxes? All kinds of stuff!

This one has broccoli, cucumbers, strawberries, pumpkins, and a mix of onions, garlic, and shallots.

This one has a couple types of tomatoes, a mix of bell and hot peppers, and some more of the allium mix. So far everything is doing OK, but of course it’s early days. I need to get some tomato cages and other wise prop up a few of the other plants. I may try to start a few more pumpkins, because it looks like only one has survived.

Are you doing any gardening this year? If so, how is it going?

  1. Everything looks great. Because a pumpkin plant takes up soooo much space, depending on variety you can put sturdy support in and grow them up a frame, that’s what he does on Gardeners World. Happy veg growing. Good luck with the bunny obeying your instructions 🥬🐇

  3. Hmmm I commented on this yesterday and it’s disappeared. A pumpkin plant takes up masses of space, on Gardeners’ World he grows his up a sturdy support (wigwam of sturdy branches) so that it takes less space up on the raised bed. Good luck with that bunny 🥬 🐇

  4. Lovely!

We have bunnies cruising through our backyard, too. So cute. We also have urban coyotes in the neighborhood, and one night they were in the backyard, too. Yikes. I hope the bunnies know how to hide. Last year I saw lots of bunnies. This year I’ve seen/heard more coyotes, and haven’t seen as many bunnies. The circle of life? Also, we get raccoons in the trees, too.

    1. Wow! That is a lot of wildlife in your neighborhood! So far other than just a ton of birds, we have seen the bunnies, deer, and wild turkeys (which I know are also birds). I know there are raccoons in WI, but have not seen any in our area yet.

  5. Such a cute bunny! I’m not doing any gardening this year, but I’m hoping that I’ll finally be able to get things in order this fall so that I can garden next year. Other things keep coming up, though, the way they tend to when you have loose plans.

      1. I’m more worried about getting the old spray sprinklers out and a new drip system in, though bulbs eventually would be nice too. I just don’t want to have someone come work on my sprinkler system in the heat of a the summer.
