Baking Experiment 2: Key Lime Pie

Well, the Key Lime pie worked out pretty well! I used the recipe from United States of Pie by Adrienne Kane, and it was right on the money. Pretty much the only thing I would do differently in making this pie again is crush the graham crackers a bit finer. Honestly, I got bored at a certain point and though “good enough”. And it was fine but would have been better a bit more consistently crushed. I did use packaged key lime juice ( Nellie and Joe’s brand) as I wasn’t able to find fresh key limes.

It was very tasty, and turned out just as I had hoped. I am encouraged!

Next experiment will be a cake – probably in a few weeks. What kind? I don’t know yet. What is your favorite pie to make? And side question, what’s your favorite pie to eat?

  1. I’m not a pie maker usually, but have a friend who loves pecan pie so make mini ones at Thanksgiving (he’s American). I use a pate sucree for the crust, and this year I found a great filling. Ended up with far too much of course, even after making 24 mini pies!

I didn’t know that dark maple syrup was a thing, but I got some in the supermarket no problem.

  2. I made a key lime pie once and decided I don’t like it. Not sure why because I love custard stuff. Cherry pie is my favorite but there has to be a LOT of cherries (not a juice pie) and I don’t like it when the crust gets soggy. As for cakes, chocolate is always my “go to” but you can put a smashed banana or two in a cake mix for a pretty good banana cake.

  3. Hmmm, I thought I posted a reply, but I don’t see it. Key lime!

Maybe the link I put in sent me to the spam filter? It’s a recipe for my favorite easy key lime pie. I won’t link in this comment, and see what happens.

I did mention that you can buy graham cracker *crumbs* and skip the pulverizing!

    1. I’ll check the spam filter – thanks! Interesting and good to know – thank you! I liked my crust better than pre-made ones I’ve bought in the past, but maybe a little premade is good enough 🙂
