New year, new WIP! I decided to put Powdermill aside for a little while to work on something new. Some friends and I are doing a gansey KAL. Alissa from Snakes and Cranes, Liz from Highland Heffalump, and Sarah from mildlygranola are all doing different ganseys or gansey-related items.
I am doing an Eriskay gansey from Beth Brown-Reinsel’s Knitting Ganseys book.

I am using Frangipani 5 ply gansey yarn in the Cordova colorway, which I see from Ravelry has been in my stash since 2018! So I’ve been planning on this project for a little while, I guess. Initially I planned to design my own gansey, but they kept just not happening. So I’m using this pattern, and so far it is going very well!
Have you every made a gansey? If so, how did it go?
Instead of matching you completely I am making the Cordova. I’m still on the ribbing. I think this is going to be a very slow sweater for me.

I made that gansey for Bob. It was pretty straightforward. Beth Brown-Reinsel has a Patreon you can join at a free level. She has a class coming up on Cowichan sweaters!

That’s good to know – I will definitely ask you if I run into anything confusing. But you are right, it seems pretty straightforward 🙂
That is good to know – I am definitely interested in knitting a Cowichan sweater!

Looks like a very good start. I’ve never tried a gansey myself.

Thank you! There are some interesting construction details, but otherwise – just knits and purls!

I have never made a gansey and look forward to seeing all of your creations.

It should be interesting to work on – hoping so, anyway!

Oooh, I love the color! It’s going to look so nice. I haven’t ever knit a gansey, so I can’t provide any insight into how it went. Sounds like a fun knit-along, though!

Yes, it will be fun for sure! I love the color too – a yarnshop owner in Cordova AK commissioned this color from the yarn company. It is the color of the water in Cordova’s harbor!
