Color Compass

Like most years, my big holiday treat to myself is a yarn advent. This year I got Kate Davies Color Compass advent, and I am so glad I did!

The best thing about this advent is not really the yarn (though that is great as well), it’s the activities around it. The Kate Davies group on Ravelry has a thread where everyone is encouraged to post pictures of their yarn for that day with things around them that are either the same color or work with it in some way. So we get to see pictures from all around the world – outdoors on nature walks, indoors with treasured object or art, or other yarn. Also, Felicity (Felix) Ford does a blog post every day with a meditation or thought about that day’s yarn color.

This then prompts me to really look at the yarn and also consider colors I see in the world around me as well. It really is an experience as well as some very pretty yarn 🙂

So here it is so far – the yarn is Milarrochy Tweed is all of the current colors, plus 6 new ones! So – yarn. Fair enough. But look at how much more interesting it is when you look at it in comparison to other items or colors:

If you are interested in seeing more beautiful photos of yarn, check out the KDD Color Compass links on Alissa’s Snakes and Cranes posts this month, or check out the Color Compass Spoilers thread on the KDD & Co. Community Forum on Ravelry.

Are you treating yourself to an advent this year (yarn or otherwise)? How do you like it so far?
