Livestock Report

I’m happy to report my bird and squirrel feeding efforts are going well! We’ve had all kinds of visitors to the back yard over the last few weeks.

Having a good variety of food out for them is helping I think. We mostly get smaller birds, though occasionally I see a cardinal or crow out there.

I haven’t been able to get pictures of the because I think they come through when it’s darker out, but we have had deer in the yard as well! They have been enjoying the pumpkins I put out back for the wildlife to take care of 🙂

Any wildlife sightings in your area?

  1. It’s harder at this house to feed the birds. I do sunflower seeds during the summer but in the winter I switch over to suet cakes in a container hanging off the deck (easy access). At first the woodpeckers enjoyed the suet but I haven’t seen anyone there in the past 2 weeks. Don’t know if it’s the “wrong” flavor. The heated bird bath is also nearby on the deck and I occasionally see takers there. Birds can be as finicky as people.

  2. We have a handful of songbirds that come through our area, but I haven’t put out a feeder for them yet so they don’t hang out long in our mini yard. (They stop by for the bird bath but they don’t stay long.) However, the squirrels are constant, and we have hummingbirds that live in the area as well. I put up a feeder for them, and they are frequent visitors.
