House Progress

There’s actually been a LOT of progress on our new house since I last wrote about it, but I’m waiting for areas to be “finished” to talk about them. But there’s one room I can’t wait on – my office!

After a fair amount of trouble and strife, we got my mural wallpaper up! Now to get the furniture arranged and everything set up! I have been planning this room for months, and this wallpaper was much harder than I thought it would be. It is not hung perfectly. But it’s good enough, and it’s worth all the trouble!

Have you had any home project that were much more complicated than you thought they would be? And how did they turn out?

  1. Our loan on the house got sold. Even though the mortgage company promised never to sell it. It was a portfolio loan and 9.75%, but we were paying it off in leaps and bounds and they reduced the interest we paid every time we made a payment, unlike the scheduled interest loans on conventional loans.
The new mortgage company, however, did scheduled-interest, so doubling the payment every month put money into an escrow account that did not collect interest and they didn’t change the loan interest owed. We needed to refinance the loan.
We got tentative approval on a new mortgage, but they sent an appraiser to our house to check on the “collateral to be financed” and they would not approve the loan until the house was brought up to specifications.
We had to completely renovate every single room in the house. AND we had to get an additional $10,000 home equity loan to do it. We had to get a loan to qualify for a loan to get out of a bad loan.
We did the renovations in 8 months. It was a huge chore!!!!
