With my Halloween Cats sweater done, I’m focusing on two smaller projects before jumping back to a bigger one.

The first is a pair of Latvian mittens for my Mom for Christmas. I really only have the cast one and a little bit of the cuff done. So a bit more to do on these 🙂

The second project is a pair of curtains. It’s not as crazy as it sounds! We have one of those doorways with the two long, thin windows to either side of the door. They currently have thin lace curtains, which do not retain heat, and also are see-through at night.

So I decided to knit winter curtains for them! I happened to have 6 skeins of Rowan Felted Tweed in a nice medium gray, so I just started knitting. I don’t have a pattern. I am making them a foot wide, because that covers the windows with a little coverage to either side, and around 45 inches long. So really like two short scarves. I’m just doing different widths of stripes just using knits and purls. I started this on the plane to Anchorage, when I really did not have any patience for trying to be fancy. But I think this first one looks fine as it is. Now I need to decide if I’m going to try to do the same stripe sequence on the second one, or if I’m just going to freeform that one is well. Time will tell!
I may or may not make different curtains for the warmer weather – I do have some linen yarn that I’ve been trying to decide what to do with. Maybe it wants to be summer curtains!
Do you ever craft projects for your house? If so what did you make?
Never heard of knitted curtains but they sound lovely!

I hope so!

Knitting curtains is certainly a surprise! But your project looks both sensible and doable. For house project, I usually stick to knitting small pillow covers.

I haven’t knitted many pillows, but keep thinking I should start! I hope the curtains turn out – they should be pretty quick to work up.

Knitted curtains! Neat idea—I wasn’t sure what the piece was going to be when I saw the picture.

Thanks! We need to retain heat a little better in some areas of the house, that that doorway is one of them. So I hope they work out!

Fingers crossed! That’s one of the “fun” things about a new house, figuring out where the issues are.

Very true! You kind of have to keep an eye out for stuff.

Yup. And some of them you have less control over than others. Like “what are the squirrels doing on my roof NOW?”

OMG – right?!? Could be just passing through, could be entering their secret lair in the attic

Indeed! We are 99% sure the squirrels have a secret lair in the attic, but since we have no attic access to the area where we think they are, we’ll have to punch a hole in our bathroom ceiling to be sure.

Bleah! I hope that isn’t the case!
