Knitter’s Bookshelf: Scandinavian Sweaters

Scandinavian Sweaters, by Kristin Wiola Odegard, is exactly what it sounds like its going to be – a book of patterns to knit Scandinavian sweaters. There are a few accessory patterns here and there, but mostly it’s sweater patterns. There are cardigans and pullovers, designs for men, women and children. Most of the designs are mildly updated versions of Scandinavian classic designs, and many are shown in several different color ways.

One interesting touch is that some of the garments have embroidery or crochet embellishments.

If you are interested in Scandinavian sweater design at all, you may want to check this book out. There are a lot of nice designs, with enough variation in style that everyone will find something they like.

Have you read any interesting crafting books lately?

  1. They all look so lovely. MJ Mucklestone said in class this weekend that some Bohus patterns (I know these aren’t Bohus but you and I have talked about them) have up to eight or nine colors in a row! It made me think twice about my desire to knit a Bohus sweater. Do you have a pattern picked out from this book?

    1. I have a couple I’d like to make from the book – they are really nice patterns!
Yes, the Bohus can have a lot of colors per round! The first one of those I plan to do (have the yarn all wound, just waiting to build up gumption to start) only has a couple rounds with more than two colors, so it’s a good Bohus starter 🙂

  2. I have so many knitting books and it is wonderful to see yours. I bought several knitting booklets of Scandinavian knitting and I keep thinking that I will make one of the sweaters; now I’m on fire to knit something Nordic right away!! Or maybe one of Alice Starmore’s designs. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
