We took advantage of the long weekend and some beautiful weather to get a few projects done around the house. First, a long awaited redo of our entry landing floor. We just put down new linoleum tile, but for some reason it took us a really long time between buying the tiles and actually doing it. Here is the original floor with the new tile laid out on it so we could plan. It was in good shape, but neither of us liked the color.

And the new floor! Really happy with how it turned out.

We also bought and planted an apple tree.

We did buy one last year but it did not make it. We read up on care and feeding over the winter, so we hope to keep this one alive! We shall see how that goes.
We also started redoing a big landscape wall/planting bed at the front of the house. It has been slowly falling apart since before we bought the place, so it’s been on the to-do list for a while. However, it is a big project and is going to involve moving a lot of dirt and stone before we are done. So no pics of that yet.
But we also got to relax some. We finally got to use our firepit, which we got last year and then just never used for some reason. It was nice to just relax outside and enjoy the fire π

Hope everyone in the US had a good Memorial Day weekend, and everyone else had a very nice regular weekend!
Sounds like wonderful projects. Love the new floor. You are making this home your own!

Good! Glad to hear it π It is a pretty big yard, which is great until it’s time to mow it π

ugh, mowing. I’m trying to find someone who will mow our DBQ yard. It hasn’t been easy.

We are pretty lucky in our neighbor’s teenage daughter who does odd jobs to build up money over the summer. She mows for us when she’s around. DH likes doing it, but is glad for the break when she can take care of it π

Great house projects! I completely agree on the entry linoleum… there was nothing wrong with the old one, but the new tiles look so much better.

Thank you! Yes, the previous owner really liked yellows and browns and those sort of muted colors. We really don’t, so we are doing a lot of just painting and so on.

That makes sense! (But you probably wouldn’t like my house, then. The previous owner painted nearly the whole interior in yellows. Not what I would probably have chosen, but at least it does make the house feel bright and open.)

I totally respect other people’s aesthetic choices – as long as you are comfortable in it and it makes you happy, fair enough. But no, yellow is not my favorite. It can definitely be cheery though!

I don’t think I would have picked yellow, but I don’t mind it. I certainly don’t dislike it enough to paint over it all! (Way too much work, LOL. Our ceilings are too high.)

I absolutely get that! Our living room and upstairs hall remain yellow for the moment because we are exhausted thinking about dealing with it. One day!

Thatβs a lot of work on a holiday weekend. Iβm glad you got to relax and enjoy when the work was done.
I bought a fire pit several years ago; we hardly ever use it. I wonder if I would use a propane one more? I just donβt want to tend a fire!

If you don’t like tending a fire, then propane might suit you better π

Wow amazing new floor – congratulations on getting that done – bet you keep going to the area and peeking at it, that is what I do when we do a home improvement π
