I had a little FO this week, my Cetraria Islandica cowl! The pattern and kit are by Helene Magnusson, aka The Icelandic Knitter. The main yarn (the brown) is unspun plotulopi, which is interesting to knit with. I had to be a lot more delicate with it than I generally am with yarn. The resulting fabric is very fluffy and light, compared to the same weight in spun yarn. It is supposed to end with a picot bindoff, which I didn’t do.
My Mom has already claimed this, as it is extra warm and also her colors 🙂 Now that this project is over, I cast on a hat, also for my Mom. Good to have just two projects going again!
Wow! That looks great, and I am in awe of your beautiful workmanship!!

That’s lovely! Though—unspun yarn sounds like… not yarn? I’ve heard of knitting with pencil roving before, was this like that? I can imagine it would have been hard to knit with.

It is kind of like pencil roving! It is not easy for me, at least not at the start. I generally keep my yarn tension a bit tight and this stuff does not respond well to that. So I had to be pretty careful. But it knits up warm and light, so that’s nice!

Neat! I’ve never tried knitting with yarn like that (loosely spun singles are the closest, but they’re still spun). I think it sounds like something fun to try though!

Definitely fun to try! It’s not my new favorite, but definitely something I would do again 🙂

It certainly seems like it would make a super soft and fluffy finished object!
