Adventures in Dairyland – Hamilton Print Museum

Earlier this month, DH and I visited nearby Two Rivers, WI. Other than going to Intertwined yarn shop, we visited Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum.

The name pretty much tells you what you are going to get, and it did not disappoint.

It is housed in an old industrial building, which adds to the character. Part of the museum is about the Hamilton company, which started out making furniture and then branched into printing as one of its many commercial endeavors. There are a few rooms with some company history information and examples of their other products. But the majority of this museum is around print. Presses, different sets of type, and all kinds of equipment and examples of the printer’s art abound.

In addition to just regular printing, the museum focuses a lot on multi-color prints and more artistic uses for printing.

They have a pretty busy schedule of classes and seminars for people who want to learn printing, and also host a monthly “Ink and drink” for people who want to come in and do some casual puttering with the museum’s printing equipment.

We really enjoyed it and learned a lot. We are on the lookout for a beginner’s class that will fit with our schedule – it really does look like it would be interesting to try out. If you enjoy print or graphics, you will like this museum!
