Well, it’s been a week since we planted our seedlings, and mostly they seem to be doing OK. The hanging baskets and pots on the balcony are hanging in there, though they’re a little weedy at this point. But they will fill in 🙂
The plants by the walkway, however…
I don’t think these guys are going to pull through. Oh well. Off to the home store!
If you are gardening or yardening this year, how is it going?
Oh no, what happened? I see a marigold in there.

Yep, one or two sad little marigolds made it. I got new ones from the home store and replaced all the others. Not sure what happened – possibly I didn’t harden off my seedlings enough? Oh well, live and learn 🙂

The peas, onions and lettuce have benefitted from a cool, wet spring. The tomatoes are pouting.

Sounds like your garden is mostly doing pretty well! Tomatoes do like the heat.

Hmmm…what happened? Too cold? Too wet? Not in the mood to bloom?

Not sure. I only hardened them off for one day, so maybe it’s that. On the other hand, it’s been in the 40s at night, which should have done them any harm, I don’t think. ?

We went away for the week and I lost my cilantro and half of my parsley plants. Off to the nursery too!!

I made a caprese salad last night, and noticed that something is eating my basil. I did not see any insects, but wouldn’t a critter mow it down rather than nibble on a leaf?

I think you are right on that. Sorry to hear that! Do you have an idea what kind of pest?

No idea! I am asking our blogging gardening friends.

What’s the difference between a garden and a yard? Here a backyard would have a concrete floor, like my old Victorian terraced house had, because it used to have an outside toilet originally. But anything with grass is a garden. Is that the same there? Slugs will eat marigolds perhaps they had a bumper meal one night.

To us the grass area is yard and anything planted with flowers or veggies is a garden. That may not be the terminology all over the country, but that’s what I grew up with.
