When the Stash Dive Turns Up Empty

Since yesterday’s post was about how my stash is out of control, today’s post is naturally about how somehow or another, I still don’t have quite all the yarn I could possibly need.

This month’s Boost Your Knitting project is Flying Leaves, a brioche scarf designed to teach increases and decrease. I have done straight two-color brioche, but had not done any increases or decrease, so I am in! The pattern calls for 100 grams each two colors of sport weight yarn. So I fished around in the stash for sport or DK weight yarn that wasn’t spoken for, and came up with this.

Which at first looked promising. However, all the combinations I tried

just didn’t quite work. Either there wasn’t enough contrast between the colors, or both colors were too busy, or something. The plain pale blue yarn kept looking promising, but it is silk and all the rest is wool, and I wasn’t sure that was going to work out so well for this project.

“I can scarcely believe I am saying this,” I told DH, “But I need to buy some yarn.” He could scarcely believe it either, but there it was. Fortunately KnitPicks had some yarn that fit the requirements, and for a pretty good price. Colors I like together, good value contrast, and the same fiber – sold! It showed up today, so cast on will be at some point this weekend 🙂

  1. I think I would have tried the light blue with the blue mix, but the colours you bought are gorgeous too and who doesn’t need to buy yarn on occasion 😜
What is this Boost Your Knitting?
