Yes, sorry – another sleeve joke 🙂
That’s what I have been working on – sleeves. Although these are short (elbow length) sleeves, they seem to be taking forever to knit. In reality, it’s been a little less than a week. It just feels like so much longer!
Two more inches to go, then I can start binding off for the sleeve caps! Then it’s just sewing it up, picking up and knitting the band along the fronts and around the back of the neck. If there’s enough yarn left, I may make patch pockets for the fronts. By the pattern estimate, I should be cutting it pretty close though, so we shall see if it’s possible. Anyway – onward and upward!
I usually do my sleeves first, as a gauge swatch!

This reminds me of a story about our mother, Celia. Every year she knitted matching sweaters for her six daughters, and she used to do 6 fronts, then 6 backs, then 12 sleeves, and toss each piece into the hot water cupboard while she knitted the next piece, and the next… One memorable year she found that mice were in the cupboard and had been nibbling the sleeves. Aargh!

I hope they didn’t get too much of the sleeves! 6 matching sweaters is a lot of sweaters!

Oh, there was certainly some unpicking and reknitting. Our mother Celia was a powerhouse!
